The Department of Sociology, under the Faculty of Arts & Social Science, was established alongside the founding of First Capital University of Bangladesh, Chuadanga, in the Fall Semester of 2012. It was founded under the leadership of Solaiman Haque Joarder (Chairman, Board of Trustees), with Mst. Shamsun Naher serving as the department’s first chairperson. 

The department offers a wide range of courses for both the BSS (Honors) and MSS degrees in sociology, spanning two academic levels: Bachelor’s and Master’s. It strives to provide students with a broad understanding of sociology, offering 53 courses, from Project Planning and Management and Research Methodology to Theoretical Perspectives in Sociology. Over the years, the department has placed strong emphasis on both the methodological and theoretical training of its students.

Committed to creating and maintaining its reputation for academic excellence, the department fosters a
rich academic environment that encourages critical thinking and the practical application of sociological
knowledge to students’s; personal experiences. The department also maintains a library to meet the needs of
its students.

“The Department of Sociology was established at the First Capital University of Bangladesh, Chuadanga, from the very inception of the university on March 14, 2012. Over the past twelve years, the department has celebrated numerous achievements through teaching and learning. I feel proud and thankful to everyone who has contributed since the establishment of the university. It is an honor to serve as the chairperson of the department from the very beginning. The Department of Sociology at this university has been instrumental in advancing the teaching and research of sociology in Bangladesh. We offer 53 courses, ranging from Introduction to Sociology to

Sociology of Development and Theoretical Perspectives on Sociology. Over the years, we have emphasized courses in research methodology and project planning and management, which have greatly enhanced our students & career prospects.

Our focus is on promoting intellectual leadership through innovation and outcome-based education, fostering social commitment through community engagement. I take immense pride in the collective efforts of our faculty members and students, both from home and abroad, which have contributed significantly to our success.

Sociology is the science of society. The Department of Sociology would constitute analytically skilled, ethically sound human resource with social commitment and having a world view with strong sociological imagination. Thus, the overall objectives of the undergraduate curriculum are to equip students with in-depth knowledge about society and culture in national and global contexts. The students of this department gain adequate insights into relatively permanent traits as well as the dynamics of the human society in order to be competent citizens of a global village.
